Eurobike 2011: Splendid Show but not Super for Business

2011欧洲展:展览有余而成交不足

With this year’s 20th edition Eurobike more than ever before underpinned its leading position as THE show for the global bike sector. Again bigger than ever before with close to 1200 exhibitors on a show ground that also was again bigger than ever before with the help of smartly placed and laid-out tents. However, the business done at the show wasn’t record-breaking.

The final report of show organizer Messe Friedrichshafen says: “Once again more than 40,000 trade visitors from over 100 countries were at the show.” Last year the show organizer was more specific and said that 41,482 trade visitors from 102 countries were at Eurobike 2010.

Like last year over 20,000 consumers were on Saturday, the public day at Eurobike 2011. The number of journalist was somewhat over the one of 2010. Then 1,732 journalists from 35 countries were in Friedrichshafen; this year the show organizers reported that more than 1,800 journalist were there.

Despite these big numbers the ordering that took place at the show wasn’t that big. High stock levels were obstructing business normally done at Eurobike. Component makers said that their order-intake was on average 30% down on previous years. It was said that the drop in orders was not related to a specific region, but holds true for the whole of Europe.

尽管参展者数量庞大，但是实际成交的订单却没有那么多。高库存水位正在堵塞欧洲正常的生意。零件制造商表示他们的订单比往年平均少了30%。订单的减少并不单单发生在一些特定的区域，而是整个欧洲都出现这种情况。

Unsold stocks of complete bicycles are clogging the distribution chain. It will take some time before those stocks are cleared. But maybe that this year’s Eurobike with its sunny and warm weather is a sign in the sky that the fall will be much better than the summer of 2011. Something that surely will contribute to clear out the warehouses.

未销售出去的成车库存正在影响着整个产业链。清理这些库存是需要一些时间的。但是或许今年欧洲展期间明朗的阳光和温暖的天气似乎预示着秋天将会有个好收成。而事实上，好的天气的确能够有助于消化库存。
